In Shillong, the story of a cocktail can begin at a market long before it reaches the bar. At Ïewduh, the ingredients of everyday life arrive from across Meghalaya, carried in by the people who grow, gather and trade them. At The Mills, our mixologists bring this world into view through an immersive marketplace inspired by the layered hills of Meghalaya. Indigenous produce and seasonal ingredients sit alongside the cocktails they inform, giving guests a chance to encounter the raw material before tasting its transformation.

AMMA brings another kind of material knowledge to the collaboration: the language of textiles, where colour, pattern and technique hold the imprint of a place and its people. The meeting invites a closer look at how materials travel from their origins into new contexts, and what they carry with them along the way. The result is an encounter between two practices rooted in regional knowledge, each finding new expression without losing sight of where it began.

Mixologists Shillong, Meghalaya.

Rishot Laloo (Head of Beverage, Shad Skye) is building a cocktail language rooted in Northeast India. Trained at IHM Guwahati, with experience at The Oberoi Grand in Kolkata, he returned to Shillong to explore the region’s ingredients on their own terms. His foraging skills, local knowledge and experimentation bring ingredients such as wild berries, native herbs and smoked rice into the glass.

Emirinika Suiam (Bartender, Shad Skye), her bartending journey began in 2016 and took her across India before bringing her back to Meghalaya. Her approach is personal as much as technical: ingredients such as bamboo shoot become a way to express where she comes from.

Multidisciplinary art practice

AMMA Studio is a multi-disciplinary based practice led by Amrit Kumar and Mriga Kapadiya. Rooted in their 16 year textile journey creating NorBlack NorWhite the work expands into installation, tapestry, image making, interweaving craft techniques, spatial design and sound. They explore feminine dreamscapes, the poetry of everyday objects, culture of the sacred, life of colour and hybridity through their immigrant identities.
